While rest of the world is still fighting the issue of buffering YouTube videos, South Korean people are enjoining lightning fast internet. The internet provider in the country is offering 2.5 Gbps internet speed.
The crazy fast 2.5 gigabits per second makes South Korea a home to the fastest internet on the planet. SK Broadband is the ISP behind the super fast internet service. The company has further assured that they will be rolling out new plans at 5 and 10 Gbps in the latter half of this year.
The speed of 2.5 Gbps is insanely fast as compared to any internet in any other country in the world. South Korea continues to hold the first position in the countries that offer fast internet service. A CNET reporter, Stephen Shankland refers South Korea as “a country obsessed with super fast networks.”
If we compare South Korea’s internet speed with the average speed in the US, SK is multi-folds ahead of Americans. Akamai’s State of the Internet Report suggests that the average connection speed in the US last year was 18.7 megabits per second.
The government of South Korea has recently announced a new project to accelerate commercialization of 10 Gb internet. South Korea has also planned to commercialize 5G network by March 2019.
According to ZDNet’s report, SK Broadband is using gigabit passive optical network (GPON) technology to offer the crazy fast internet. GPON technology enables to run internet as fast as 52.5 Gbps with a single cable (core) and host 128 subscribers at a time.
